Let Nevadans Vote Coalition Shows Support for Former Nye County Clerk Sam Merlino and Urges Interim Replacement to Protect Against Bad Actors
NYE COUNTY, NEVADA – Today, the Nye County Board of Commissioners debated and considered an interim replacement for Nye County Clerk, Sam Merlino. Merlino submitted her resignation on June 6th, 2022. The Let Nevadans Vote coalition testified offering their thanks and appreciation of Merlino while encouraging the next interim Clerk to protect the freedom to vote against bad actors.
Emily Persaud-Zamora, Executive Director for Silver State Voices and head of the Let Nevadans Vote coalition, says:
“On behalf of Silver State Voices, we would like to express our great appreciation and respect for the impeccable work and public service demonstrated by the outgoing Nye County Clerk, Sam Merlino. Ms. Merlino has a wealth of information, and she has always made herself available to provide assistance for any Nye County election-related inquiry. For that, we will always be grateful for your tireless and diligent public service, Ms. Merlino.
We would also like to extend a sincere welcome to the newly-appointed interim Nye County Clerk. With Nye County having the third largest percent increase (17%) in population across Nevada, and with recent requirements to provide election materials in Shoshone, we look forward to working with them in order to make voting more secure, accessible and equitable for all Nye County voters.”

We strongly encourage the Nye County Commission to appoint a person who will continue Ms. Merlino’s footsteps and protect Nevadans’ right to a fair election.”
