Let Nevadans Vote Coalition Responds to Elko County Item Concerning Changing Voting Systems
NEVADA – Today, the Elko County Commission heard from County Clerk Kris Jakeman about alternative voting systems including a different provider for electronic voting machines and a switch to paper ballots. As we have seen these efforts continue across Nevada, the Let Nevadans Vote Coalition felt it was important to testify concerning the efficacy of electronic voting machines as evidenced by past elections being secure and safe. We commend the Commissioners for continuing to support Ms. Jakeman and her team and for not taking action on this item.
QUOTES:
“I applaud this body and Ms. Jakeman for her efforts today. We are extremely elated to see that this body fully supports Ms. Jakeman and her office, especially with the rise of harassment and threats across the nation experienced by election officials and their staff,” said Emily Persaud-Zamora, executive director of Silver State Voices. “Elko County is the sixth county in Nevada to consider similar efforts. Each and every time, advocates and community members have come together to defend the freedom to vote. Voter suppression tactics like these do not make elections more secure for Nevada voters; they only serve to restrict access to the ballot box for the most vulnerable in our communities.”
