Statement regarding the Clark County Registrar’s new provisions for the 2020 primary election
LAS VEGAS, NV – The Clark County Registrar today announced a resolution to the preliminary injunction filed against the Nevada Secretary of State by the Nevada State Democratic Party. The Party has withdrawn their injunction with the agreement by the Registrar to have Clark County mail ballots to all registered voters, designate more in-person voting locations, ensure bolder protections against ballots discarded for clerical or technical errors, and allowing individuals deputized by the County to collect and deliver sealed mail ballots to drop-off locations.
“It’s with a sigh of relief that we extend a huge thank you to the Clark County Registrar, Joe Gloria, for taking the lead for our state on ensuring no eligible voters are disenfranchised for this upcoming primary election,” said Emily Persaud-Zamora, Executive Director of Silver State Voices. “We hope the other election officials throughout Nevada follow his example and implement sensible measures to allow all voters to participate safely and securely, whether by mail or in-person. Our organization works with a broad coalition of partners to disseminate information about voting into every community that makes up our diverse state. We needed to see electoral practices that empower people, including communities of color, non-English speakers, voters with disabilities, and voters without homes to have the chance to participate in our primary election. We believe this agreement reached today is a positive step towards achieving that goal for this upcoming primary election, and we will continue to monitor and work with Registrar Gloria, Secretary Cegavske, and election officials around the state to make sure the general election in November will have even greater protections afforded to voters at risk of being disenfranchised.”
